UWSAG talks to Juhani Kerkkonen
of CLL Website Awards

Owner: CLL Website Awards rated 3.0 with UWSAG
Winner: UWSAG Award Seekers Pick! for September, 2003

  1. What got you started in website design?

CLL Website Awards "Unavoidably my memories go back to the end of 1980s, when I for the first time launched my own Fidonet Node. My E.B.O.B.B.S (Electric Barrel-Organ BBS) was consisting of message-areas, file-areas and also small-scale polls and quizs, which I myself were coded with the own command language of the box-software. Very likely from those times did a spark to net-design remain in my mind."

  2. What do you hope to accomplish with your award program?

Juhani-kerkkonen "My AP's purpose is, for my part, distribute encouragement to good mission and knowledge in Internet and Award communities by rewarding excellent web sites with an award. At the same time I have an excellent opportunity to learn other languages, traditions, cultures, civilizations and views of life. I believe, that relevant, rational and logical usage of Internet serves very well the purpose of lifelong learning."

  3. What advice would you give new program owners?

"MI think, it's worth taking your own time for a good look at APs and sites of experienced designers, but don't copy them (at least not without permission) or parts of them. There are some common parts on sites, as legal info etc., but mostly high quality APs are as a result of an own tough work of each designer."

  4. What was the biggest problem you faced with your award program?

"I had problems with graphics (and still have). The creation of good graphics requires unexpected much time and patience. Also the online usage of images sets own high standards for graphics."

  5. If you had to do it all over again, what would you do differently?

"So far I've been so lucky, according to my own assessment, that almost all I've done up to now, could be improved without too much trouble."

  6. What plans do you have for the future?

"I'm going to stay (with my own limited time and resources) to the Award community for learning communications and other useful skills. When I retire from my present paywork, after a couple of years, I expect I have even more time for this purpose."

  7. What else do you like to do?

"I guess, I'm already so old, that the history (in addition to all kind of philosophy) will be uppermost in my mind in the future. *smile* So, also traveling around different cultural environments belongs still to my future plans."
