UWSAG talks to Nikki Burke
of Pantheon Awards
Owner: Pantheon Awards rated 5.0
with UWSAG
Winner: UWSAG Award Seekers
Pick! for May, 2003
- What got you started in website design?
"I started building websites when I entered college.
I started out just like everyone with lots of music, blinking
text, moving images…the works. Then while sitting in statistics
class I came up with the idea for a mythology website. It’s
been through so many revisions that I don’t even know
where to start. My websites improve as my knowledge improves."
- What do you hope to accomplish with your award program?
"All I hope to accomplish is to have fun evaluating
and see some of the many websites on the internet. I don’t
feel I am fulfilling some great purpose, I just feel that I
am doing something I find fun and entertaining. If it helps
others along the way…so be it."
- What advice would you give other program owners?
"I would definitely advise looking around and seeing
what type of program you are interested in and how much time
you would like to involve. I think there are many that come
into web awards thinking it will not take a ton of time. It
can take as little or as much time as you care to contribute
and it is important people know that."
- What was the biggest problem you faced with your award
program?
"I don’t feel I had too many problems, my problem
with my award program is always time. I give feedback to everyone
and with that commitment came a lot of extra time to write in
comments and complete all evaluations fully…whether necessary
points were available or not. However, I love the responses
I get from people when they hear feedback and that makes it
all worthwhile."
- If you had to do it all over again, what would you do
differently?
"Nothing at all, I haven’t minded it a bit."
- What plans do you have for the future?
"Oh I plan on rewriting some of it but nothing too drastic.
I want to continue to make things more condensed and easier
for the applicant to use and interact with."
- What else do you like to do?
"I’m a tennis coach and an avid mythology buff.
Outside of work, tennis, and my website I love to go shopping,
hang out, go to movies and workout. I like to be very busy and
am open to many things…as long as I’m not bored."
