UWSAG talks to Sylvia Crossfield
of the Saltfleetby Village Website
Owner: Saltfleetby
Village
Winner: UWSAG Top Ten! for
June, 2003
- What got you started in website design?
"Having had a fascination for computers for a long while,
I decided that it was time (at 50+!!) that I did something about
it. My grandchildren were leaving grandma behind!! I went on
the inevitable computer course to find out as much as I could
and it takes you over."
- What do you hope to accomplish with your website?
"I decided to design this Website after two of the villages
oldest residents died and I realized that an awful lot of the
village history had gone with them. My aim is to record and
share with others as much of the history and up to date information
of our village as I can possibly gather together. I have also
tried to design this Website for ease of navigation by the not
so internet minded visitors."
- What advice would you give other webmasters?
"Think about what it is you want to do with a Website,
have a play first before you publish it and talk to as many
other Webmasters as you can, they are all very helpful and willing
to give advice (as I have found out)."
- What was the biggest problem you faced with your website?
"Everything! But the biggest for me had to be the Horizontal
Scrolling that was a nightmare! But thanks to those Webmasters
out there who helped and advised me I have now got it sorted,
I hope."
- If you had to do it all over again, what would you do
differently?
"Perhaps not use frames. I worry about Browsers not
recognizing frames. But much as I would love to change it everyone
in the village say "don't change it, we can find our way
around nicely" so it stays."
- What plans do you have for the future?
"I am working on a Website of a children's story that
I wrote for my Granddaughters some years ago, nothing impressive
but they liked it! I would also like to be able to design websites
for others."
- What else do you like to do?
"I teach the older generation how to use the computer
and find that very rewarding. I enjoy digital photography very
much (having just created a wonderful Wedding Album for our
eldest son, 100 photos in it), The Countryside, Animals and
Birds and just enjoy being with my husband and of course our
Grandchildren when they come to stay."
